About this work:
This stool was designed as part of my Emerging Creative collection for Design Indaba in 2013. Inspiration for this series stems from astronomy and space science. The Big Bang was a theory that suggest that the universe formed from a single point in space during a cataclysmic explosion about 13.7 billion years ago. The field of astronomy is important to the modern world for the same reason it was to the ancient world: astronomical discoveries have the potential to shift the human consciousness. Close observation of comets and the phases of Venus were instrumental in disproving the geocentric model that put Earth in an exalted place in the universe. Learning the true distance between stars and galaxies helped teach humanity more about its place in the cosmos.
